The America’s Transportation Experience family is saddened to announce the passing of Road Map Collector’s Association member David James Leach, 74, of Lemoyne, Pennsylvania. He was known for his fun, generous personality and passion for collecting. For years, the Museum benefited from David’s dedication to envisioning, curating, and maintaining the Historic Road Maps exhibit in the Museum’s main gallery. He was also a content contributor to Reflections, the Museum’s magazine. He authored the “Road(map) Ways” columns, presenting unique takes on the value, artistry, and history of roadmaps as wayfinding, promotional, and sales tools. His nostalgic insight and accompanying map imagery provided a unique window into the growth of American travel.
David was a graduate of Cedar Cliff High School in 1970 and Elizabethtown College in 1974. He worked for AAA as a webmaster and travel coordinator, and later for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
David will be remembered most for his honesty and kindness. We truly appreciate his dedication to America’s Transportation Experience/AACA Museum, Inc. To honor David, a commemorative brick will be placed in the memorial walkway at the Museum’s entrance.
