HERSHEY, PA | As the new year dawns, America’s Transportation Experience/AACA Museum, Inc. is set to rev its engines in celebration of its visionary founder, William H. “Bill” Smith. Join us for a museum-wide birthday open house on Friday, January 23rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.—a day packed with activities and heartfelt remembrance.
A true gentleman, Bill was larger than life. Whether you were a world-famous celebrity, the proud owner of a multi-million-dollar collection, or simply a car lover he met at a show, Bill greeted everyone with his trademark warmth, a friendly handshake, and a story to share.
With sixty-three years of combined service, Bill dedicated himself to championing automobile heritage and preservation. His tireless energy, vision, and unmatched expertise launched the Museum into the award-winning destination it is today. Bill wore many hats—AACA Club President, Executive Director, AACA Library supporter, AACA Museum Board member, and later, AACA Museum Director Emeritus—always inspiring those around him. In 2005, Bill joined an incredible list of hobby leaders when he was named the Meguair Man of the Year Award.
The open house is a tribute to Bill’s birthday, legacy, and spirit. Guests receive FREE ADMISSION, engaging seminars, behind-the-scenes tours, and, of course, a slice of birthday cake (while it lasts!). From noon to 1 p.m., Museum Board President Hank Hallowell and Curator Stan Sipko fire up the grills to serve a sizzling FREE LUNCH to guests (while supplies last).
Bill’s 1959 Chevrolet El Camino, which he restored to award-winning status, will be on display. Also, guests will enjoy three featured exhibits: “Old School Rods and Customs,” “Mustang: Then & Now, “ and “Saab Showroom.”
We look forward to welcoming everyone to 161 Museum Drive in Hershey for the annual celebration open house! It’s a great day to honor Bill’s commitment to founding the Museum.
